Sebratah, an interesting archeological site on the Mediterranean coast of Libya adjacent the modern city of the same name, includes this spectacular theatre, which gives a good idea of how Roman theatre would “feel”, with stage and amphitheatre. I visited this location in April 2009. There is something magnificent about a theatre in the open air and the colonnaded backdrop gives the venue a magnificent scale. It is a setting absolutely appropriate to the formality of classical drama.
